The leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
yesterday met with stakeholders in the upcoming Governorship elections
in Edo State to extract a commitment by all parties to work towards the
peaceful conduct of next Saturday’s elections in the state.
The meeting which held at the INEC headquarters had in attendance the National and State Chairmen, Secretaries and Governorship candidates of seven political parties who would be testing their strength at the polls.
A statement from INEC disclosed that the Chairman, Prof AttahiruJega who presided over the six hour long meeting called on all the parties to lay to rest accusations and counter-accusations against each other in the interest of peace.
A resolution was signed at the end of the meeting by the 18 participants who reaffirmed their commitment to all the provisions of the code of conduct signed by all political parties.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to “peaceful, free and fair elections in Edo state as contained in a communiqué following a stakeholders meeting on security held on 28th June 2012 in Benin City under the Chairmanship of the DIG of Police ‘E’ department Training, Force Headquarters in charge of South- South Geopolitical zone.”
Meanwhile the National Publicity Secretary of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Alhaji Lai Mohammed has raised an alarm over the hack of his personal email account by unscrupulous persons who have sent emails to contacts in the address book.
