It was a gathering of the best of the best, when Nigerian Breweries PLC hosted key media last night, to a special event where performers for this year’s edition of Star Trek were announced.
Inside De Marquee, at Mega Plaza, in Lagos, MC Gideon Okeke called them out one after the other: Presh, Omawumi, Tiwa Savage, Waje, Yinka Best, Jay Martins, M.I, Wande Coal, Naeto C and Mr Raw.
Other headliners Flavour, 9ice, D’banj, Wizkid and Obesere were not in the house, but they were heavily present through the brilliant branding that covered the entire room.
Titled ‘Nigeria Rocks‘, this
year’s edition of the nation-wide concert will run from May 25 to June
23. Organisers say cities to be covered include Ibadan, Makurdi, Ilesha,
Lagos, and Sapele. Others are Awka, Abakaliki, Uyo and Calabar.
2face Idibia who had
hitherto been labelled a Guinness property, owing to his Guinness Extra
Smooth endorsement of many years, will make his debut in the Star
concert series with his inclusion in this year’s Trek. Idibia’s romance
with Star started last year when he performed at the company’s Hat-Trick
event.
Apart from Idibia, it is also the first time Tiwa Savage an Waje – two rapidly-rising talents, are performing for Star.
‘This year’s edition is aimed at
enlivening the social atmosphere in Nigeria, thus demonstrating the
brand’s core values of fun, brightness, sociability and friendship’ says
Ageni Yusuf, NB PLC’s Corporate Affaris Adviser. ‘…As is tradition of
Star to promote and encourage talents, up-and-coming acts will be given
the chance to perform in their domains’.
Other performers this year include Star Quest 2012 winners Crystals, Sound Sultan, and Ice Prince.
